Students at Trinity Christian School volunteered to help Meals on Wheels as part of their community service program.
One requirement to graduate from the school is to do 24 hours of community service each year. For some students, including Eli Robertson, the community service rule has created an opportunity to help Monterey.
“About three times a month we will come out to the community and help serve everyone around us.” Robertson said. “We have a break from classes, no academics, just helping those around us.”
Every other week, staff and students in the program spend three hours doing community service.
Some students said the program is helpful for both them and the community. Addi Greene, a student volunteer, said, “I really enjoy this. I was like, this is really a great idea, just coming out and being able to serve our community give back to those that have helped us.”
The program previously worked with the Red Cross, the Bridge Restoration addiction recovery mission, Forest Hill Senior Center and several local businesses and nonprofit organizations.
