The impressions a young person receives, form the person they become.
Originally from Plymouth, Massachusetts, Cory moved with his family to the peninsula in 2013, from San Ramon. His parents were married here in 1978 and always knew they would return to put down roots.
Cory’s grandmother was a Meals on Wheels recipient over 15 years ago and he remembers visiting with her while drivers would bring her food. What he witnessed touched his heart. It wasn’t just a drop off of food, but more of a conversation of concern and kindness as to how she was doing and how was her day. At that young age, Cory thought to himself I am going to do that for others someday.
Clients who were strangers a year ago when Cory started, are now friends he looks forward to seeing. This has helped Cory with his own unexpected loss of his father in 2020. Coming back to the area to be with his family during this time, allowed Cory to evaluate what was most important.
Reaching out to people in need and providing a smile and a bit of daily joy has filled Cory’s heart. Seeing the teamwork from kitchen prep, the food assembly, the attention to detail, he feels part of the team who provide encouragement to people who may not have it.
Cory’s parents made sure to teach him that it is important to add joy to a person’s life each and every day. Through MOW, Cory feels he is honoring other fathers and mothers out there which continue his legacy and the values which were instilled in him at a young age.
