Volunteering is, I guess, my new retirement job. These were the words of our volunteer Joseph Amireault, and they could not be more true. Joseph began volunteering with MOWMP during COVID-19! He saw a need to help his community during a difficult time. Since the Center was closed to the public, Joseph initially started supporting the team by putting together vegetable bags of fresh produce for our community members to pick up.
Once the Center opened, Joseph, who has been involved in the hospitality industry for about four decades, asked if he could help serve lunch to our members and guests. This felt like a natural fit for Joseph. Volunteering has always been a large part of Joseph’s life. For several years he has been volunteering as a committee member to help with a group called “Carmel Cares Organization, where they help to clean up the village. He also is a “Median Minder” for two major street intersections located in Carmel, designing layouts, and maintaining the various plants that line the streets.
In addition to city beautification, Joseph, and his wife volunteered for “The Walk to End Alzheimer’s”. They not only volunteer but now coordinate with other volunteers for the annual walk. MOWMP assisted Joseph and his wife this year with a group of our own volunteers to aid another non-profit organization! It was a great sharing experience!
When asked, why volunteer at MOWMP, Joseph replied “It fulfills my feeling of helping my community; as well as giving me a new family of members and volunteers.” His parents instilled in him and to all 6 children, to help for some cause! Joseph didn’t know that he was volunteering, it was just helping! Joseph’s words of wisdom to those who may be considering volunteering at MOWMP are from his heart. He says “Volunteering at MOMWP will fill your heart with joy and happiness. A great group of people to work with and people to interact with. To me, it is home
